Same sex marriage in Chile

President Sebastian Piñera announced that he will support the bill that seeks to legalize same sex marriage. The project, which has been under discussion in the National Congress since 2017, seems that it will finally be approved and Chile will join the list of Latin American countries that embrace diversity and protect the rights of all people as equals.

Piñera argued

“We must expand on the value of freedom, including the freedom to love and form a family with the loved one, and also on the value of the dignity for all relationships and affection between two people.”

Currently, there are 7 Latin American countries that have in their legislation the right to marry and form a family regardless of sexual orientation, they are: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Uruguay, Ecuador and Costa Rica.
